Amsterdam, Netherlands (SportsNetwork.com) - Anwar El Ghazi's goal in the 83rd minute rescued a 1-0 win for Ajax over Excelsior at the Amsterdam Arena on Sunday.

The win keeps Ajax within 11 points of runaway leaders PSV Eindhoven, who notched a 3-0 win at Go Ahead Eagles on Saturday.

Excelsior had the best chance in the first half when a last-ditch header from Ricardo van Rhijn prevented Jordan Botaka from scoring at the back post.

Davy Klaassen was next to save the day for Ajax as he made a goal line clearance in the second half to deny Daan Bovenberg.

Richairo Zivkovic was introduced as a substitute in the second half for Ajax, and he played provider on the lone goal seven minutes from time as his cross was nodded home by El Ghazi to claim all three points for the hosts.

Feyenoord moved into third place thanks to a pair of second-half goals from Mitchell te Vrede in a 3-0 win over NAC, while AZ Alkmaar slipped to fourth after losing 6-2 at Utrecht, which got two goals from Sebastien Haller.

The other match on Sunday saw Groningen top Dordrecht, 2-0, with goals from Albert Rusnak and Tjaronn Chery.
