Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (SportsNetwork.com) - Jarmila Gajdosova of Australia and Japan's Kurumi Nara were among the second-round winners Wednesday at the Malaysian Open tennis event.
The fourth-seeded Gajdosova battled through a tough first set and pulled away in the second for a 7-5, 6-2 win over Thailand's Luksika Kumkhum and will next play Nara in the quarterfinals.
Nara, seeded sixth this week, needed more than three hours to eliminate Polish qualifier Magda Linette, 7-5, 5-7, 7-6 (8-6).
Eighth-seeded Julia Goerges of Germany cruised into the quarters with a 6-1, 6-2 rout of Kateryna Kozlova of Ukraine. Goerges will next meet Romania's Alexandra Dulgheru, who followed her upset of second-seeded Sabine Lisicki with a 6-4, 6-1 triumph over China's Duan Ying-Ying.
Russian qualifier Elizaveta Kulichkova also moved into the quarterfinals with a 6-0, 6-2 pounding of Kazakhstan's Yulia Putintseva.
The remaining second-round matches will take place Thursday. Top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki highlights the action against China's Zhu Lin.
This week's champion will collect $43,000.
