Calgary, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - The season is over for Calgary Flames captain Mark Giordano.
The team announced Monday that the 31-year-old defenseman needs surgery to repair a torn biceps tendon, a potential crippling blow for a Flames team battling for a playoff spot in the crowded Western Conference.
He sustained the injury in the third period of Wednesday's game against New Jersey after taking a hit from Devils forward Steve Bernier.
Giordano, who is facing a 4-to-5 month recovery period, shares the team lead and is tied for second among all defenseman in points. He finishes the 2014-15 campaign with 11 goals and 37 assists in 61 games.
