Buenos Aires, Argentina (SportsNetwork.com) - Former champion Tommy Robredo cruised into the quarterfinals during Thursday's play at the Argentina Open tennis tournament.
The second-seeded Robredo, who captured this clay-court event in 2009, needed just over an hour to dispose of wild card Renzo Olivo by a 6-1, 6-2 score in his second-round match.
No. 4 seed Fabio Fognini was an upset victim on Thursday, however, as Buenos Aires resident Carlos Berlocq foiled the fiery Italian 6-3, 6-0 at the famed Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club.
Fognini was last year's runner-up to three-time champion David Ferrer, who decided to play in Acapulco this week.
Berlocq's quarterfinal opponent on Friday will be rising Slovenian Blaz Rola, who drilled Argentine qualifier Facundo Bagnis 6-2, 6-1 on Day 4.
Former top-10 star Nicolas Almagro will next take on Robredo after dousing fellow Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas 6-3, 6-4. Almagro won this event in 2011 and was the runner-up to Ferrer in 2012.
The 2015 Buenos Aires titlist will collect $91,050.
