Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Jonathan Quick withstood a barrage of Colorado shots to help the Los Angeles Kings in a 4-1 win over the Avalanche on Wednesday night.
Quick stopped 42 shots as the Kings won a season high-tying sixth straight game.
Jeff Carter scored a pair of goals, Tyler Toffoli had a goal with an assist and Dustin Brown also tallied a goal in the win.
Gabriel Landeskog lit the lamp for the Avalanche, who had their two-game winning streak snapped. Semyon Varlamov made 22 saves in defeat.
"They were the ones pushing at us," Landeskog said of the second period. "We played hard and we played offensive. They played well. Our power play played well. We just couldn't capitalize."
Nathan MacKinnon put a shot on net as he rushed the zone early in the first and gathered his own rebound in the corner. He then found Landeskog at the left circle for his 14th goal of the season to give the Avalanche a 1-0 lead 3:09 in.
Colorado had trouble clearing the puck early in the second period when Toffoli threw a shot on net and Carter deflected it past Varlamov for a 1-1 game.
Los Angeles took the lead later in the period on the counterattack as Trevor Lewis dumped the puck in the zone and Toffoli crashed the net before stuffing it past Varlamov.
"They came out hard tonight," said Toffoli. "We showed a lot of heart and grit getting back in this one."
The Avalanche again had trouble getting the puck out of the zone which led to another goal from the Kings. Drew Doughty, who had two assists, wheeled around the net from the point and fed a pass in front to Brown, who wristed it in for a 3-1 lead.
Los Angeles fended off a pair of Colorado power plays midway through the third period, as the Avs could not sneak one past Quick for nearly four straight minutes with a man-advantage. Quick made a sprawling save on the back end of the second power play to maintain the two-goal cushion.
"Without him it would have been different," Toffoli said of Quick.
Carter added a empty-net goal late in the third to secure the Kings' first three-game road winning streak of the season.
