Greenville, SC (SportsNetwork.com) - Furman announced a change in its 2015 football schedule on Thursday as it has replaced a game against Jacksonville State with a visit to Central Florida on Sept. 19.
The Paladins, who travel to Virginia Tech a week earlier, have two FBS opponents on their schedule for the first time since 2009.
"The opportunity to play Central Florida was something we were pleased to exercise from both a financial and visbility standpoint," Furman athletic director Gary Clark said.
Furman defeated Central Florida, 42-6, in Greenville in 1984 in the only football meeting between the two programs.
Furman was 3-9 overall and 2-5 in the Southern Conference under coach Bruce Fowler last season. UCF was 9-4 overall and earned a share of the American Athletic Conference title before falling to North Carolina State in the Bitcoin St. Petersburg Bowl.
