Ottawa, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Ottawa Senators forward Clarke MacArthur and goaltender Robin Lehner were involved in a scary collision Monday night that knocked both players out of the game and forced officials to end the second period prematurely.

MacArthur was backchecking Carolina's Jay McClement when both players crashed hard into Lehner in the Ottawa net.

MacArthur's head appeared to make contact with Lehner's body and the forward was on the ice for several minutes before skating slowly off. Lehner also was down, but got up sooner.

After crediting McClement with the go-ahead goal, officials ended the period 53 seconds early.

The teams returned after intermission to play the remaining seconds before switching sides for the start of the third period.

Andrew Hammond replaced Lehner in net and Carolina scored two more times for a 6-3 win.
