Berlin, Germany (SportsNetwork.com) - Freiburg scored in either half at the Olympic Stadium on Sunday to claim a crucial 2-0 victory over Hertha Berlin.
Felix Klaus put the visitors in front in the 15th minute while Maximilian Philipp doubled the advantage seven minutes into the second half.
The two-goal gap proved to be too much for Berlin as Freiburg marched on to collect all three points.
The win sees Freiburg inch closer to safety, putting the club third from bottom on 21 points for the season. Hertha Berlin, also on 21 points, is second from bottom on goal difference.
Paderborn also improved its odds of survival on Sunday as the club rallied for a 2-1 win at Hannover.
Marcelo had put the hosts in front in the 66th minute, but goals from Srdjan Lakic and Alban Meha granted Paderborn the vital victory, bringing the club to 23 points.
