Glendale, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Arizona Coyotes general manager Don Maloney announced Thursday that center Martin Hanzal will undergo back surgery that is expected to sideline him for the remainder of the 2014-15 season.

Hanzal has been sidelined since Jan. 29 with what the Coyotes had termed an upper-body injury, with the 27-year-old having missed the team's last seven games.

"The likelihood of him retuning this season is remote but we do anticipate a full recovery," said Maloney in a statement tweeted by the Coyotes.

Hanzal, who has spent all eight of his NHL seasons with Arizona, has recorded eight goals and 16 assists over 37 games in 2014-15.
