Buffalo, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The Buffalo Sabres have acquired forward Evander Kane from the Winnipeg Jets in a multi-player trade.
Kane is currently sidelined with a shoulder injury that will likely force him to miss the remainder of the season. Also heading to Buffalo are defenseman Zach Bogosian and the rights to collegiate goaltender Jason Kasdorf.
Winnipeg will receive defenseman Tyler Myers and forward Drew Stafford, as well as minor league forward Joel Armia and junior forward Brendan Lemieux. The Jets also obtained a first-round pick in the 2015 NHL Draft.
Kane was expected to be among the biggest names available on the trade market heading into the March 2 deadline before suffering his shoulder injury. Despite the injury, he was still dealt.
The 23-year-old veteran has 109 goals and 222 points in 361 games in six NHL seasons, including 10 goals and 22 points in 37 games this year. He was selected by the Winnipeg franchise with the fourth overall pick of the 2009 draft when the club was located in Atlanta.
Bogosian was also a first-round pick, selected third overall by Atlanta in 2008. He has 40 goals and 127 points in 393 NHL games over seven seasons with the Thrashers/Jets franchise, including three goals and 10 assists this season.
Kasdorf is currently playing for Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The Winnipeg native was a sixth-round pick in 2011.
Myers and Stafford were also first-round picks. The Sabres took Myers with the 12th overall choice in 2008 and selected Stafford with the 13th overall pick in 2004.
The 25-year-old Myers has 45 goals and 151 points in 365 NHL games over six seasons. He was the Calder Trophy winner as the league's top rookie in 2009-10.
Stafford has appeared in 563 games over nine seasons with Buffalo and has produced 322 points with 145 goals and 177 points.
Armia is in his second pro season, spending both with Buffalo's American Hockey League affiliate in Rochester, while Lemieux was a second-round pick by Buffalo in 2014 and is playing with the Ontario Hockey League's Barrie Colts.
