Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Chicago Blackhawks activated forward Kris Versteeg from long-term injured reserve, the team announced Wednesday.

Versteeg hasn't played since suffering a fractured left hand against the Washington Capitals in the Winter Classic on Jan. 1.

The 28-year-old was having a strong start to the season before the injury, posting nine goals and 18 assists in 34 games.

Forward Joakim Nordstrom was assigned to Rockford of the American Hockey League to clear a roster spot for Versteeg.
