Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - Trevor Daley scored the game winner while shorthanded late in the second period and Erik Cole added an empty-net score as Dallas claimed a 5-3 decision over Boston at TD Garden.

Jamie Benn tallied twice and Vernon Fiddler contributed an early marker for the Stars, who were coming off an overtime victory against the Rangers on Sunday which ended a three-game slide.

Kari Lehtonen backed his offense with a 41-save effort.

"I just think that we have been playing good hockey," Stars coach Lindy Ruff said.

David Krejci, Patrice Bergeron and Dougie Hamilton lit the lamp for the Bruins, who hadn't lost to Dallas in regulation at home since 2001.

"When you're feeling good and everything's positive, it goes the other way again... We have to find a way to change that this road trip," said Hamilton.

Boston dropped the final two games of its three-game homestand and will now embark on a five-game road trip starting in Vancouver on Friday.

Niklas Svedberg allowed three goals on 10 shots in the first period. Despite sitting on the bench after starting 11 straight, Tuukka Rask was called upon in relief, but suffered the loss after giving up Daley's strike on 21 chances.

Dallas' Ryan Garbutt was serving a double minor for high sticking when Daley was permitted to look like Wayne Gretzky en route to his 14th goal of the season. He carried the puck from his own zone on the left wing, crossed to the right wing and beat Rask to his rebound with 6:18 left in the middle frame and the Stars were back on top by a 4-3 count.

Lehtonen was good on all 11 Bruins' shots in the final period, and dodged a bullet when Milan Lucic missed from the right side with roughly a minute left.

Rask was still on the bench for an extra skater when Cole bounced a puck off the boards and into the vacant cage with 32.8 seconds to play.

Those who braved the massive amounts of snow which inundated eastern New England had to endure a strange first period.

Stars forward Antoine Roussel was ejected, given a major for cross-checking and a game misconduct, for driving his stick under the chin of Bruins defenseman Adam McQuaid just 3:43 in.

Fiddler put the visitors on the board at the tail end of the Boston power play, breaking away up the middle and beating Svedberg with a shot that rang off both posts at 7:28.

Krejci atoned for his turnover which led to that score and tied the game just after the midway point of the first, but Dallas took a 2-1 lead thanks to Benn's short-side score at 14:38 and hit intermission up 3-1 after Benn struck again at 17:53.

Rask took over in net and Bergeron pulled the hosts within a goal just 26 seconds into the second period while killing a penalty and Hamilton evened things at 6:42 by potting a Torey Krug rebound.
