Norman, OK (SportsNetwork.com) - TaShawn Thomas had 22 points, 11 rebounds and five assists as No. 17 Oklahoma defeated No. 14 Iowa State 94-83 on Monday night.

Ryan Spangler posted 14 points and 12 boards, Isaiah Cousins netted 19 points and Buddy Hield added 17 for the Sooners (17-7, 8-4 Big 12), who have won five straight on the heels of a 1-4 stretch.

The victory moved OU into sole possession of second place in the Big 12.

"We are for real and we are trying to make progress every game. It's tough and to win a game like this. It shows that Oklahoma is no joke," Hield said.

Dustin Hogue provided 19 points and Jameel McKay supplied 16 points and nine rebounds for Iowa State (17-6, 7-4), which has dropped two of its last three games.

"We had a 10 point lead with five minutes left (in the first half) and then we started turning the ball over and giving them opportunities where they took all the momentum going into halftime," Cyclones coach Fred Hoiberg said.

After Hogue's layup pulled the Cyclones within 63-58 with 12:44 remaining, the Sooners responded with an 11-2 run to seize control. Consecutive layups by Cousins and Spangler capped the surge and stake OU to a 74-60 advantage with 8:33 to go.

The Sooners increased that margin to as many as 20 down the stretch.

Earlier, a pair of Naz Long 3-pointers jumpstarted an 11-2 Cyclones burst, which was finished off on a Georges Niang trey for a 40-30 Iowa State cushion with 5:27 to go in the opening 20 minutes.

Oklahoma, though, netted the final seven points of the half, with a Hield pull-up left wing 3 in transition tying the game at 46-46.
