Plekanec, Weise lead Habs past Devils

Montreal, QC ( - Tomas Plekanec and Dale Weise each scored two goals to help the Montreal Canadiens beat the New Jersey Devils 6-2 on Saturday at Bell Centre.

P.K. Subban had three power-play assists and Carey Price stopped 21 shots for the Canadiens, who snapped a two-game losing streak.

Keith Kinkaid made 38 saves as New Jersey saw its win streak end at three games and point streak halted at six games (5-0-1).

Jacob Josefson fired a backhander in off Price's glove to draw the Devils within a goal at 3:01 of the third period.

Plekanec and Weise stepped up and scored 30 seconds apart to give Montreal a 5-2 lead. Plekanec pounced on a loose puck in the bottom of the right circle and buried it behind Kinkaid at 12:04, then Weise swept in a rebound at 12:34.

Weise potted his second goal of the game with 4:42 remaining.

"The jump in their game and their execution was better than ours tonight," said New Jersey forward Mike Cammalleri.

The Devils raced out to a 1-0 lead when Cammalleri deflected Peter Harrold's shot from above the right circle past Price 1:33 into the game.

Montreal had a 2-on-1 in the middle of the second, but Kinkaid moved across to rob Brendan Gallagher at the right post.

New Jersey's Dainius Zubrus was issued a double minor for high-sticking Subban shortly thereafter. The penalty proved costly as Montreal scored power-play goals 59 seconds apart to take a 2-1 lead.

Subban dished to Andrei Markov, who drilled a one-timer from the right point that deflected in off the stick of New Jersey defenseman Andy Greene at 11:21.

Lars Eller then ripped home a feed from Subban after a New Jersey turnover at 12:20.

With 9.1 seconds left in the second, Plekanec scored on a one-timed blast on another power play to make it 3-1.

"The power-play goals gave us a lot of life tonight," said Montreal coach Michel Therrien.
