Madrid, Spain (SportsNetwork.com) - Atletico Madrid continued its dominance over Real Madrid by cruising to a 4-0 rout of the European champions at the Vicente Calderon on Saturday.
In addition to eliminating the Galacticos from Copa del Rey action, Atletico earned a 2-1 victory at the Bernabeu earlier in the season with Tiago breaking the deadlock in that affair.
Saturday's contest began in similar fashion as the Portuguese midfielder ran on to a layoff from Mario Mandzukic in the 14th minute and fired a first-time effort past Iker Casillas, who got a hand to the shot but was unable to prevent the ball from trickling over the line.
The lead was doubled within four minutes as Guillherme Siqueira cruised past Daniel Carvajal and chipped in a cross from the left flank. Saul Niguez, who had entered the match for the injured Koke in the 10th minute, was on the receiving end of the delivery, finishing the move with an acrobatic bicycle kick.
Atletico made it three in the 67th minute when a cross to the back post drew Casillas out of position before being nodded in front of goal by Saul, which allowed Antoine Griezmann to tuck the ball into the unguarded net.
The rout was complete two minutes from time when Fernando Torres latched on to a through ball on the right flank and whipped in an inch-perfect cross for Mandzukic to steer home with a powerful header.
Atletico is unbeaten in six meetings with Real Madrid since losing the Champions League final to the Galacticos last season.
Real Madrid remains atop the table with 54 points, but the club���s lead could be reduced to just one point if Barcelona defeats Athletic Bilbao on Sunday.
David Barral produced a hat trick to help lowly Levante overturn a first-half deficit and claim a 4-1 victory over Malaga on Saturday.
Juanmi had handed Malaga the lead in the 24th minute, but Barral answered with goals in the 26th, 37th and 62nd minutes, while Kalu Uche tacked on an insurance goal in the 75th minute to seal the win.
Villarreal, meanwhile, scored in either half to collect a 2-0 win over Granada. Mateo Pablo Musacchio opened the scoring for the Yellow Submarine at the half-hour mark while Gerard Moreno made it two in the final minute.
Finally, Imanol Agirretxe put Real Sociedad in front after nine minutes, but Celta Vigo's Nolito struck five minutes from time to see the two sides split the points in a 1-1 draw at the Anoeta.
