Orlando, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Tobias Harris scored a career-high 34 points to lead interim coach James Borrego and the Orlando Magic to a 103-97 overtime win over the Los Angeles Lakers.
"He was really demanding of us in the huddle," said Harris. "He wanted us to get back in the game by making stops."
Harris shot 14-of-18 and tallied seven rebounds.
The Magic snapped a 10-game losing streak in Borrego's coaching debut. Nikola Vucevic added 25 points and 13 rebounds. Victor Oladipo scored all 12 of his points after halftime and finished with 11 boards and five assists.
Los Angeles lost for the 12th time in its last 13 games despite holding a double-digit lead early in the fourth quarter.
"If you go in there, you'll see the guys are not in there having a party right now because we lost the game because they think it's going to help us get a better draft pick," said Lakers coach Byron Scott.
Ryan Kelly paced the Lakers with 20 points, and five other Lakers reached double figures, including Jordan Clarkson, Carlos Boozer and Jeremy Lin, who all had 14.
After Boozer's hook shot put the Lakers up by 11 with 10:47 to play in regulation, Orlando went on a 15-0 run to take its first lead since the opening moments of the second quarter. Willie Green's 3-pointer put the Magic ahead, and he followed that with a layup on the following possession to cap the run.
Vucevic's jumper tied the game at 91 with 1:59 to play, but neither team made a basket the rest of the way to send the game to overtime.
Harris' runner started overtime, but Wesley Johnson's 3 ended a 4 1/2 minute scoring drought for the Lakers that started at the end of regulation. Elfrid Payton gave Orlando the lead back on the ensuing possession.
With 1 1/2 minutes to play in overtime, Oladipo stole the ball from Johnson and raced down the court for an emphatic slam to seal the win.
The coaching change did not pay early dividends for Orlando. In the first six minutes of play, the Magic committed five turnovers that led to eight Lakers points.
The Magic used a 10-0 run to take the lead later in the first. Vucevic stole the ball and ran the floor to finish with a dunk to help the Magic establish a 26-23 lead heading into the second stanza.
The Lakers got off to another fast start in the second period, but this time they sustained it. They went back up by 10 using a 17-4 run which was capped by Ed Davis completing an alley-oop, courtesy of Lin.
Clarkson helped expand Los Angeles' lead to 52-38 at the half as he hit a 3 and a jumper late in the period. His alley-oop pass to Johnson off a Magic turnover provided the last points of the half.
Late in the third quarter, the Magic cut the Los Angeles lead to six points, but Kelly responded with his fifth triple of the game before Boozer's layup extended the lead back to double figures. Oladipo's dunk with a minute left made it a 78-69 game after three.
