LeBron, Cavs take hot streak to Detroit

(SportsNetwork.com) - LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers will wrap up a four-game road trip Tuesday against the Detroit Pistons at The Palace.

The Cavaliers have been one of the hottest teams in the league with a 16-2 record since Jan. 15 and demolished the New York Knicks, 101-83, Sunday afternoon.

James and Kyrie Irving scored 18 points apiece and Kevin Love recorded 16 points with 16 rebounds for the Cavs, who shot 50.6 percent and had a 36-17 lead after the first quarter. The Cavs have scored 30 or more points in the first quarter nine times in the last 11 games.

J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert played against the Knicks for the first time since they were traded to Cleveland in a three-team deal last month. Smith punctuated an alley-oop from Shumpert with a double-pump reverse dunk that gave the Cavs a game-high 30-point lead in the fourth quarter.

"I told him in the time out, 'Thank you for the price of admission,'" said Cavs coach David Blatt. "That was special. It was really nice, too, that it was here in New York against a team that J.R. has been part of.

"A lot of people appreciate what he's done and what he does and I thought he played really well."

James passed Allen Iverson for 22nd place on the NBA's all-time scoring list during the game.

Cleveland has won 14 in a row when scoring 100-plus points and is 28-4 when achieving the feat this season. It is 2-1 on the current trip and 14-13 away from home this season.

After visiting the Pistons, Cleveland will gear up for a home showdown with Golden State on Thursday.

Detroit is 2-1 on a five-game homestand and shoots for a third straight victory tonight.

In Sunday's 106-89 triumph over the Washington Wizards, Kentavious Caldwell- Pope scored 13 of his 26 points in the third quarter and Reggie Jackson had 17 in his debut with the Pistons.

Jackson was acquired from Oklahoma City last week.

"He was so hyped up," Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy said of his new point guard. "In the second half, he looked like the guy we traded for, attacking the basket, using his athleticism, making plays."

Andre Drummond added 18 points and 16 rebounds, and Greg Monroe ended with 15 and 15 rebounds for the Pistons. Monroe is averaging 17.1 points and 11.5 rebounds in his last 12 games, while Drummond is posting an average of 15.4 points and 13.6 boards over his past six.

Drummond is three games shy of 200 in his career and Van Gundy needs six wins for 400 as a head coach.

Detroit has a 12-18 record at The Palace and will host New York on Friday.

The Pistons and Cavs have split two games this season and will meet again April 13 at Quicken Loans Arena. Cleveland has won four of the past five games between the Central rivals.
