Real Madrid signs Brazilian Silva

Madrid, Spain ( - Real Madrid completed the capture of Brazil U-21 international Lucas Silva on Monday from Cruzeiro, signing him to a contract that runs through June 2020.

The 21-year-old helped Cruzeiro win the Brazilian league title in 2014 and he was named the best defensive midfield player in the competition.

He was the reported target of Arsenal and other European clubs, but always favored a move to the Spanish capital.

"I'm delighted to be here. This is a dream come true. I arrive to Real Madrid looking to learn and help," Silva said. "I'm ready to wear this jersey and to honor it. This is the best club in the world and I know I'm going to be very happy here."

Silva has represented Brazil and the U-20 and U-21 level, and he becomes the second new arrival at Madrid in January, joining Norwegian teenager Martin Odegaard from Stromsgodset.
