Florence, Italy (SportsNetwork.com) - Alberto Gilardino has secured a return to Fiorentina on loan after spending the past five months in China with Guangzhou Evergrande.

Gilardino left Genoa in July to join Guangzhou, but he will return to Serie A until the end of the season with Fiorentina for a second spell in Florence.

"Today's a big day for me, coming back to Florence," Gilardino told the club's official website. "I'm really happy to be here. It's great to be back and I'm raring to go. I want to prove myself in Serie A again after five months away. I'm really up for it and I feel good physically."

The 32-year-old Gilardino returns to the Artemio Franchi three years after his first stint, which saw the Italy international net 59 goals in all competitions from 2008-12.

Fiorentina currently sits three points out of a Champions League place after a 1-1 draw with second-place Roma on Sunday.
