Lyon topples 10-man Metz

Lyon, France (SportsNetwork.com) - Lyon climbed four points clear at the top of Ligue 1 on Sunday by notching a 2-0 win over 10-man Metz at the Stade de Gerland.

Lyon took the lead just after the half-hour mark through a penalty kick from Alexandre Lacazette, while Corentin Tolisso put the result away with a goal in the 83rd minute, helping Lyon to a seventh straight victory.

Metz was reduced to 10 men in the 29th minute when a professional foul from Guido Milan on Lyon's Rachid Ghezzal earned the Metz man a red card, leaving the visitors with little chance at getting anything from the match.

The result drops Metz to the bottom of the league as the side has now gone winless in its last 10 games.

Lyon should have taken the lead earlier in the contest when Lacazette picked out Christophe Jallet at the back post, but he somehow failed to hit the target from close range.

However, Lacazette was handed the chance to put his side in front when Ghezzal was brought down by Milan, and Lacazette made no mistake from the penalty spot.

The hosts continued to be in charge of the match, but they only held a one- goal lead as the game reached the final 10 minutes.

Tolisso then wrapped up the win seven minutes from time when he got on the other end of a pass from Yoann Gourcuff and fired home a shot from 20 yards that found the bottom corner of the net.

PSG moved level with Marseille on 44 points apiece with a 1-0 defeat of St. Etienne on Sunday. The lone goal of the affair came courtesy of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who slotted home a penalty at the hour mark to secure all three points for the visitors.

Evian moved out of the relegation places with a 1-0 win over Toulouse that saw Adrien Thomasson tally the loan goal in the fourth minute, Reims and Lens battled to a 0-0 draw, and Caen scored three times in the second half en route to a 4-1 victory at Rennes that moves the team to within one point of safety.
