Amsterdam, Netherlands (SportsNetwork.com) - Ajax and Feyenoord played out a 0-0 draw at the Amsterdam Arena on Sunday in a battle of top-three sides, handing leaders PSV Eindhoven a big boost.
PSV's 2-1 win over Cambuur on Saturday stretched the lead to seven points at the top of the league, with Sunday's result leaving defending champions Ajax six points adrift.
Feyenoord had the better of the chances in the contest, while Ajax struggled to keep possession and generally looked a bit off the pace.
The 20th minute saw a great chance presented to Feyenoord as Arkaduisz Milik of Ajax redirected a ball into the path of Feyenoord's Colin Kazim Richards, who was left alone in the penalty area with goalkeeper Jesper Cillessen, only to see the netminder parry his shot to safety.
Milik came to the rescue for the hosts shortly before halftime when he blocked a shot from Jean Paul Boetius on the goal line, keeping the match level.
After the break it was Feyenoord who once again had the better of the play, and Boetius was denied a potential winning goal by teammate Kazim Richards, who inadvertently blocked a goal bound header from Boetius.
Utrecht and Groningen battled to a 2-2 draw with Utrecht scoring the equalizer 10 minutes after the break through Yassine Ayoub, while NAC and Willem II finished 0-0.
Sunday's other contest saw Go Ahead Eagles edge Den Haag, 1-0, with a first- half penalty kick from Jop van der Linden making the difference.
