Lausanne, Switzerland (SportsNetwork.com) - The International Olympic Committee officially opened the bid process for the 2024 Games on Thursday.
A new step was set in motion for the 2024 Olympics, as an "Invitation Phase" will start the process.
The IOC adopted the new initiative a few weeks ago as part of reforms from the Olympic Agenda 2020, which will try to make it easier for interested cities to gauge costs and supply ideas without formal applications.
Bid commitments aren't due until Sept. 15.
Rome and Boston are cities that have already announced intentions to make official bids.
