Leicester, England (SportsNetwork.com) - Veteran goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer has completed a move from Chelsea to Leicester City on an 18-month contract.

The Australia international arrives at Leicester on a free transfer and he is tied to the club until June 2016.

Schwarzer spent a large portion of his career with Middlesbrough, and he moved to Chelsea from Fulham in 2013, making 12 appearances for the Blues last season.

However, the 42-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge since the return of Thibaut Courtois from Atletico Madrid and he has yet to feature in a match for Jose Mourinho's side this season.

Leicester is currently on the bottom of the Premier League, four points from safety, and Schwarzer could be in line to feature against Aston Villa on Saturday with first-choice goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel out because of a broken foot.

Schwarzer earned 109 caps for Australia during his international career before retiring from the team in November 2013.
