Tempe, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Bruce Arians announced that Arizona Cardinals injured quarterback Drew Stanton will miss Saturday's wild card game at Carolina on Saturday.
Ryan Lindley will make his third straight start for Arizona.
In the week leading up to the Cardinals' Week 17 loss to San Francisco, Arians indicated Stanton would likely be ready for the postseason, but surgery to clear an infection in his injured knee set his recovery back.
Stanton sprained an ACL and MCL in the Cardinals' Week 15 win at St. Louis. He made nine starts in 2014, throwing for 1,711 yards along with seven touchdowns and five interceptions.
Lindley, in his second stint with Arizona since being drafted by the Cardinals in the 2012 NFL Draft, lost both of his starts to close the 2014 season, including Week 16 against Seattle which allowed the Seahawks to move ahead in the standings and eventually win the NFC West. He threw for two touchdowns and four interceptions in his two starts.
Prior to Week 17, Arians initially planned on starting rookie Logan Thomas instead of Lindley but changed his mind during practice late in the week.
The Cardinals finished 11-5 in 2014 to earn a Wild Card berth. It was their best record since the team relocated to Arizona in 1988.
Carson Palmer began the season as Arizona's starting quarterback but sustained two knee injuries, including one that ended his season against St. Louis in Week 10. He threw 11 touchdowns with just three interceptions, and the Cardinals were 6-0 in his starts.
