Fort Collins, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Colorado State announced Tuesday it has hired Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo as the program's 22nd head coach.

Bobo, 40, takes over a program that finished 10-3 in 2014, ending the season with a loss in the Las Vegas Bowl to Utah. Jim McElwain, the Rams' previous coach, was hired by Florida for the same position on Dec. 4.

"I cannot be more excited to have the opportunity to lead the Colorado State football team into the future," said Bobo.

Bobo had been Georgia's offensive coordinator for the last eight seasons, where he directed a number of effective Bulldogs offenses. In 2014, Georgia ranked eighth in the FBS in scoring offense with an average of 41.8 points per game.

Prior to that, he coached quarterbacks under Georgia head coach Mark Richt from 2001-06 after one season in the same position at Jacksonville State.

"Mike Bobo brings a great legacy of success on the football field and is strongly committed to the overall success of student-athletes, personally, academically and athletically," said Colorado State president Tony Frank. "In Coach Bobo we've found someone who knows the game and has been successful at a very high level, who can build on the great foundation that our players have established these past few years, and who wants to be at Colorado State University."

From 1994-97, Bobo played quarterback at Georgia. He won Outback Bowl MVP to cap a senior season that saw him throw for 19 touchdowns and only eight interceptions.

Bobo is known as an effective recruiter, securing commitments from key players such as quarterbacks Matt Stafford and Aaron Murray as well as running back Nick Chubb.
