The New Orleans Pelicans have signed forward Dante Cunningham, who has struggled to clear his name after domestic assault charges against him were dropped this summer.

The Pelicans announced the signing Thursday. He played the previous two seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Cunningham was charged last April with felony domestic assault after his former girlfriend accused him of choking her and slamming her head against a wall. The charge was dropped in August after an investigation uncovered inconsistencies in the woman's story.

Many teams remained reluctant to sign Cunningham in the wake of the Ray Rice scandal that rocked the NFL.

Cunningham averaged 6.3 points and 4.1 rebounds last year. The team says he will be in uniform for the game against Golden State on Thursday night.
