NEW YORK – Justin Anderson and Anthony Gill each had 13 points to lead No. 8 Virginia to a 45-26 win over Rutgers in the championship game of the Barclays Center Classic on Saturday night.
Virginia (6-0) held Rutgers to just 25 percent shooting.
Anderson, who was the MVP of the tournament, had a two-handed dunk with 3:02 left that essentially sealed the win. Gill added his own emphatic two-handed dunk with 1:36 remaining that pushed the Cavaliers lead to 42-26.
Kadeem Jack's eight points led Rutgers (3-3).
The Scarlet Knights led 18-17 at the half as Virginia made just 8 of 28 from the field in the first 20 minutes. Making the offensive outage more troubling was that Virginia opened the game with an 11-3 run in the first 7:25. But from that point until the end of the first half, Virginia missed 13 of its final 16 shots in the first half.
Rutgers experienced its own offensive breakdown in the second half, scoring eight points in the first 14:40. Following Jack's layup 4:15 into the second half, Virginia missed its next nine shots from the field until Mike Williams' twisting laying with 6:20 left.
The Scarlet Knights were outscored 28-8 in the second half, and missed all 10 3-point attempts.

Rutgers: The Scarlet Knights two games at the Barclays Center over the weekend marked the first time the New Jersey school has played in the three-year old arena.
Virginia: The Cavaliers led the game for 35 minutes and 33 seconds.
