Kansas City, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - The Kansas City Chiefs signed fullback Anthony Sherman, who serves as the lead blocker for Jamaal Charles, to a contract extension on Wednesday.

Sherman has caught five passes for 49 yards and a touchdown in eight games this season.

The 25-year-old Sherman was traded to the Chiefs from the Arizona Cardinals last year in exchange for cornerback Javier Arenas. He caught 18 passes for 155 yards and one score over 16 games in 2013.

"It was important for us to keep Anthony here in Kansas City," said Chiefs general manager John Dorsey. "He brings a lot to our football team with not only his play, but his work ethic, leadership and character. He doesn't get a lot of recognition at his position, but he has been a key component to our success as a team."

In 52 career games with the Cardinals and Chiefs, Sherman has 36 catches for 315 yards and two touchdowns. On the ground, he owns five carries for 14 yards.
