The Hornets announced they've signed Kemba Walker to a contract extension, giving the organization stability at point guard for the foreseeable future.

The team did not release terms of the deal Thursday.

A person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press the deal was worth $48 million over four years. The person spoke on condition of anonymity on Tuesday because the financial details have not been made public.

The Hornets drafted the 6-foot-1 Walker with the ninth pick in 2011.

Walker has started 180 games in three seasons and averages 16 points, 5.5 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game.

The announcement comes less than 24 hours after Walker hit the game-winning shot with 5 second left in overtime to propel the Hornets to a 108-106 win over the Bucks.
