Carson, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Chivas USA will close the curtains on a 10- season stint in MLS when the club hosts the San Jose Earthquakes at the StubHub Center on Sunday.

The Goats came into the league as an expansion side in 2005 but have toiled in the shadow of the uber-successful Los Angeles Galaxy; Chivas has not logged a playoff appearance since 2009.

Pair postseason futility with diminishing attendance records and you have the recipe for a contraction, which is how MLS opted to temporarily handle the situation while a search for new club owners is conducted.

This season, like so many previous ones, has not gone well for Chivas. The club enters the weekend tied with San Jose for last place in the Western Conference with 30 points apiece.

The Goats have managed two wins from their last three and San Jose comes into the match on a 14-match winless run in league play, but with both sides out of the playoff race, pride will be the only thing on the line at the StubHub Center on Sunday.

Both clubs will be keen to avoid finishing the campaign in last place, but San Jose will live to fight another day, so perhaps there is a bit more pressure on the hosts.

"We'll try to rest and to recover and Sunday we have the last game of the season and we are going to finish at home against San Jose," Chivas head coach Wilmer Cabrera said via the club's official website. "If we win we could even finish over two teams in MLS, things that didn't happen for this franchise in a couple of years."

San Jose closed out its tenure at Buck Shaw Stadium last time out by getting a 0-0 draw with Vancouver Whitecaps FC. The club will head into a new soccer- specific stadium for the 2015 season, but the 'Quakes aren't quite finished with the 2014 campaign.

"First and foremost, we want to end the season with a win," San Jose goalkeeper Jon Busch said, according to San Jose's official website. "It's not going to be an easy game. It's funny, because somebody mentioned that (saves) record the other day, and I kind of joked, 'I'm not sure if that's one of the records I want to be known for.'"

Busch, 38, needs just three saves from Sunday's regular season finale to break the club's single-season save mark, which was set by Joe Cannon.
