The Pittsburgh Steelers paid Cortez Allen to become their top cornerback.

The transition is happening a little sooner than expected.

With veteran Ike Taylor out indefinitely after breaking his left forearm in last week's win over Carolina, Allen will be thrust into the role of leader heading into Sunday's game against winless Tampa Bay.

Allen signed a five-year, $26-million extension a day before the season opener. The contract gave Allen job security but also heightened his profile. He says he doesn't feel any additional pressure to live up to his salary, though with Taylor hurt Allen will be lining up against the opponent's top receiver on most snaps.
