Arlington, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Robinson Chirinos homered and the Texas Rangers held off the Houston Astros, 2-1, in the middle test of a three-game set on Tuesday.

Adrian Beltre and Jake Smolinski both had three hits and Daniel Robertson hit an RBI single for the Rangers, who have won 10 of their last 11 games.

Nick Martinez (5-11) was solid over 6 2/3 innings, limiting Houston batters to five hits with no walks and five strikeouts.

"It's been really neat to see his ability to repeat things," Rangers manager Tim Bogar said of Martinez. "Tonight was a good night for him in that aspect, being able to repeat his fastball, being able to repeat his slider. It was really nice."

Marwin Gonzalez had two hits and Matt Dominguez drove in a run for Houston, which saw Brett Oberholtzer (5-13) allow two runs on nine hits and two walks across 4 1/3 innings.

"This last start wasn't the start that I envisioned," said Oberholtzer. "I was making some quality pitches, but they weren't effective."

Chirinos led off the fourth with his 12th home run of the season. J.P. Arencibia doubled and moved to third on Guilder Rodriguez's sacrifice bunt before Robertson's grounder into left made it a 2-0 game.

The Rangers failed to add to its lead in the seventh. Beltre doubled, Smolinski singled and Ryan Rua walked to load the bases with no outs. Michael Foltynewicz struck out Chirinos, then induced an inning-ending double play from Arencibia to escape the jam unscathed.

In the ninth, Dexter Fowler worked a one-out walk and Jake Marisnick doubled off Neal Cotts before Dominguez's sac fly made it a one-run game. Cotts earned his second save of the season after Jonathan Villar grounded out to end the game.

Dominguez and Gonzalez each hit two-out singles in the second, but Martinez struck out Jon Singleton to leave the runners stranded.

Rua led off the home half with a double to right and moved to third on Chirinos' groundout. Arencibia followed with a walk, but the runners were left stranded after Rodriguez struck out and Robertson lined out to center.
