Tokyo, Japan (SportsNetwork.com) - Ana Ivanovic defeated Caroline Wozniacki to win the title at the Pan Pacific Open on Sunday.

In a matchup of former world No. 1s, Ivanovic took down Wozniacki 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) to capture her 15th singles title and fourth this year. She had never won more than three titles in a single season.

"So happy to win my 4th title of the year!" Ivanovic tweeted after the match.

Ivanovic didn't drop a single set in this event and beat some quality competition, knocking off Victoria Azarenka in the second round and Anqelique Kerber in the semifinals. She then fired four aces in the final and improved to 5-2 lifetime against Wozniacki.

The third-seeded Serb took control of the first set Sunday by winning the final 17 points. She then rallied from a 1-3 deficit in the second to force a tiebreaker and finished the match with a forehand winner.

"Caroline played a great match today," said Ivanovic. "It was a really good battle out there. There were some very tough moments, especially in the second set. But I just tried to take it one point at a time, and I'm really happy to make it through. It's just an amazing feeling to win this title."

Ivanovic played in the Tokyo final once previously, losing to Martina Hingis in 2007. Wozniacki won this event in 2010.

It's been a banner year for the 26-year-old Ivanovic, who is 4-1 in finals. She beat Venus Williams in Auckland to start the season and topped Jovana Jaksic in Monterrey in April before losing to Maria Sharapova in Stuttgart a few weeks later. Ivanovic then beat Barbora Zahlavova Strycova at the Wimbledon tune-up in Birmingham before falling to Serena Williams in the Cincinnati final prior to the U.S. Open.

This was Ivanovic's first event since a stunning second-round exit at Flushing Meadows, while Wozniacki was also playing for the first time since the U.S. Open, when she fell to Serena Williams in the final.

Ivanovic collected $196,670 for the victory.
