Mother of UNC player involved in alleged hazing incident wants to 'handle this justly'

The mother of the football player involved in an alleged hazing incident at North Carolina said Friday the family is "worried about justice" for her son.

In a brief phone interview with The Associated Press, Kimber Boyer said the family is waiting for the university to complete its investigation into an incident that reportedly left walk-on receiver Jackson Boyer with a possible concussion.

"We're just a private family," she said. "We want to handle this justly. We're worried about justice."

Coach Larry Fedora suspended four players — sophomores Des Lawrence and Brian Walker, redshirt freshman Donnie Miles and true freshman M.J. Stewart — for Saturday's opener against Liberty for a violation of team policy. He didn't specify what rules were broken.

Cole Boyer, the redshirt freshman's older brother, tweeted Thursday that more players were involved and said the incident took place Aug. 4. Kimber Boyer didn't discuss specifics of the case Friday due to the ongoing school probe.

"The victim has now been spread everywhere and the perpetrators have not," she said.

The suspensions came a day after a Yahoo Sports report of an alleged hazing altercation at the hotel where the players were staying for preseason camp.

The school said in a statement it is investigating what it described only as an incident involving football players, though the school hasn't confirmed it was a hazing incident.

The school's office of student affairs is handling the investigation. Fedora said the suspensions were a "closed book for me and football" separate from the school's probe.

A Chapel Hill police spokesman said his department received no report from that hotel for an incident involving football players and that there was no active investigation.

A hotel spokesman issued a statement this week saying officials there were cooperating with the school "as needed" and referred additional questions to UNC.
