Samaras signs with West Brom

West Bromwich, England ( - West Bromwich signed Greece international striker Georgios Samaras on Friday to a two-year contract.

The 29-year-old arrives at West Brom on a free transfer after he left Celtic following six years with the Scottish side, and he returns to the Premiership having spent time previously with Manchester City.

"We've signed a player with vast experience and I'm delighted to welcome Sami to the club," West Brom manager Alan Irvine told the club's official website.

"He has played a lot of football at the highest levels - Champions League, European Championships and World Cups -- and the feedback we've got on him, from people like Neil Lennon, states he thrives on the big occasion."

Samaras is not expected to play in Saturday's match at Southampton, but his arrival adds to the depth at forward for Irvine, who earlier this summer signed Brown Ideye for a club-record $16 million.

With Victor Anichebe and Saido Berahino already in the fold up top, Irvine now has a few options when filling out his lineup.

Samaras has been capped 78 times by Greece in his international career, scoring nine goals.
