Brooklyn, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Ryan Truex will not compete in Sunday's 400-mile Sprint Cup Series race after he suffered a concussion during an accident in Saturday's practice at Michigan International Speedway.
Truex, who is a rookie in the series this season and is the younger brother of veteran driver Martin Truex Jr., lost control as he was exiting turn 2 and then made hard contact with the outside wall. He climbed out of his heavily- damaged car and walked away from the wreck under his own power but had complained of a headache and shoulder pain.
The 22-year old Truex was examined at the track's infield care center and then transported to a local hospital, where he was diagnosed with a concussion. He underwent CT scans of his head, neck, chest and abdomen, and all were negative. Truex will follow the NASCAR medical guidelines for his return to racing.
BK Racing announced that J.J. Yeley will substitute for Truex in the No. 83 Toyota at Michigan. Truex had qualified 31st for the race. He is currently 37th in the Sprint Cup point standings.
