(SportsNetwork.com) - Tim Hudson aims to avoid a fourth straight losing decision on Saturday afternoon as the San Francisco Giants try to even their three-game series with the Philadelphia Phillies.
The veteran right-hander is winless in his last four starts and is coming off a 5-0 loss to Kansas City last Saturday. He yielded three runs on six hits over six innings of defeat.
Hudson, 39, has won only once over his past 10 starts, falling to 8-9 with a 2.81 earned run average on the year.
Hudson lost to Philadelphia on July 25 despite only getting charged with two unearned runs over six innings. He is 11-10 lifetime versus the Phillies with a 3.60 ERA.
Getting the call for the Phillies will be right-hander Kyle Kendrick, who was roughed up in a no-decision versus the New York Mets on Sunday.
Kendrick yielded six runs -- five earned -- over five innings and two of the 10 hits he allowed were homers. However, the Phillies were able to win a 7-6 decision, leaving their right-hander 5-11 on the year with a 4.88 ERA.
Kendrick, 29, is 2-2 with a 4.55 ERA in seven previous meetings with the Giants, including four starts.
The Giants have fallen 5 1/2 games out of first place in the NL West thanks to a 1-6 slump and lost last night's opener 5-3 in 10 innings.
Michael Morse hit a three-run homer for the Giants in the fourth inning, but the Phillies clawed back and tied the game on Cody Asche's two-run homer in the eighth inning.
Asche then scored the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th inning, leading off the frame with a double and then later scoring when Chase Utley was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
"Coming in today seeing my name in the lineup definitely gave me a little boost of confidence," said Asche. "I was confident going into tonight because I was in there."
Philadelphia snapped a three-game losing streak, while San Francisco lost for the seventh time in its past nine games at home.
"No question it's disheartening," said Giants manager Bruce Bochy. "This is a tough one. We had a lot of them here at home, I couldn't tell you why."
The Giants won three of four games in south Philly from July 21-24.
