Texas Tech's starting quarterback Davis Webb says the Red Raiders could be much improved this season.

Webb says his receivers are faster and getting farther downfield than last year.

Red Raiders coach Kliff Kingsbury starts his second season after watching a 7-0 start fizzle with five straight losses to close the regular season. Kingsbury wants fewer turnovers and penalties after the Red Raiders (8-5) finished near the bottom in both categories last year.

Kingsbury says Webb has matured since his MVP performance in the Red Raiders' 37-23 win over then-No. 16 Arizona State in the Holiday Bowl.

Texas Tech, known for its pass-heavy offense, hopes to run the ball more but has moved last season's leading rusher to linebacker.
