Arlington, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Chris Archer struck out a career-high 12 Rangers as the Tampa Bay Rays cruised past Texas, 10-1, in the third tilt of a four-game set on Wednesday.
Archer (8-6) fired seven innings of one-run ball, scattering four hits in his third straight winning decision on the road. He hasn't lost away from Tropicana Field since dropping a game against the Astros on June 14.
"It was one of those situations where you get in the zone and blackout," Archer said of his start.
Tampa Bay starters have had success in this series, limiting the Rangers to just one run over 20 2/3 innings.
Seth Rodriguez and Brandon Guyer each hit two-run homers while Matt Joyce added a solo shot to go along with three runs and two RBI for the Rays, who have won three of their last four. James Loney went 3-for-5 and knocked in a pair for the Rays.
Miles Mikolas (1-5) was roughed up for all 10 runs on nine hits and two walks in six-plus innings.
"I made a few bad pitches in those first two innings, but I did a good job of regrouping," Mikolas said.
Joyce hit a solo shot to right to open the scoring in the first, then Rodriguez and Guyer connected with their two-run dingers in the second to stake Tampa to a 5-0 advantage.
Archer held the Rangers hitless through four innings until the Leonys Martin led off the fifth with a double to right. Martin would later score on Jim Adduci's sacrifice fly.
Loney brought Joyce home with a single in the sixth and Yunel Escobar added an RBI single later in the frame to make it 7-1. Ben Zobrist singled home Kevin Kiermaier in the seventh, Guyer scored on an error by Mikolas and Loney capped the scoring with an RBI hit.
Texas' J.P. Arencibia, who plays first base and catcher, came on in the ninth and pitched a scoreless inning in relief.
