CORTLAND, N.Y. – New York Jets cornerback Dee Milliner has a sprained left ankle that could sideline him for a few weeks, jeopardizing his availability for the regular-season opener.
Milliner was injured during practice Sunday, about a half-hour after fellow cornerback Dexter McDougle was lost for the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. Milliner had an X-ray on his ankle, but the team is waiting for the swelling to subside before performing an MRI.
Once the MRI is completed, the Jets should have a better idea of how long Milliner will be out.
Despite losing his top cornerback, coach Rex Ryan says "it's not a panic situation." He says the team will try several players at the position, including versatile safety Antonio Allen.
