Nyon, Switzerland (SportsNetwork.com) - Arsenal faces a tough test in the Champions League playoff round as Arsene Wenger's side will meet Besiktas.
The Gunners are attempting to advance to the group stage of the competition for the 17th successive season, but they will have to get past a tough Turkish side in order to reach that goal.
Besiktas claimed a 5-2 aggregate win over Dutch outfit Feyenoord in the last round, led by new striker Demba Ba's hat trick in his debut.
Arsenal and Besiktas have never met before, and the two sides will take the field together for the first time in Turkey in the first leg on Aug. 19.
Celtic was reinstated to the competition on Friday after losing 6-1 on aggregate to Legia Warsaw. However, the Polish side was found to have fielded an ineligible player in the second leg, handing the Scottish champions a 3-0 win after a forfeit and putting the team through on away goals.
With that second chance, Celtic will face Maribor in the two-legged playoff, while La Liga meets Serie A in an interesting encounter between Athletic Bilbao and Napoli.
Bayer Leverkusen will attempt to get back to the group stage against FC Copenhagen, and FC Porto, which won the tournament in 2004, faces Lille.
The other matchups in the playoff round include Zenit facing Standard Liege, Steaua Bucurest taking on Ludogorets, Salzburg squaring off with Malmo, AaB facing APOEL, and Slovan Bratislava tangling with BATE Borisov.
The first legs will be played Aug. 19 and 20 with the return legs following one week later.
