Liverpool, England (SportsNetwork.com) - Javier Manquillo joined Liverpool on a two-year loan move from Atletico Madrid on Wednesday, with Liverpool having the option to make the switch permanent.
Manquillo, a right back, has been a target for Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers this summer as the boss attempts to strengthen his back line.
And now Rodgers will hope that the 20-year-old Manquillo can compete with fellow fullbacks Glen Johnson, Jose Enrique, Jon Flanagan and another potential new arrival in Alberto Moreno for first-team minutes.
Manquillo began his career with Real Madrid at the academy level before moving to Atletico in 2007.
He made seven appearances in all competitions for the club last term, and he becomes the seventh new arrival at Anfield this summer, joining Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Emre Can, Lazar Markovic, Divock Origi and Dejan Lovren.
