Madrid, Spain (SportsNetwork.com) - Real Madrid revealed on Wednesday that striker Karim Benzema has signed a contract extension with the club that runs until 2019.

Benzema's deal was set to expire at the end of this season, but the 26-year- old has now committed his future to Madrid after helping the club win both the Champions League and Copa del Rey last term.

The France international joined Los Blancos from Lyon in 2009 and he has gone on to score 72 goals in 159 appearances.

A statement on Real Madrid's website read: "Real Madrid CF announces the extension of the contract between the player Karim Benzema and the club until June 30, 2019, the next five seasons."

Benzema netted 24 goals for Madrid in all competitions last season, and he scored three at the World Cup for France this summer while helping his team reach the quarterfinals of the tournament.
