Las Vegas, NV (SportsNetwork.com) - Indiana Pacers All-Star guard Paul George suffered a gruesome leg injury during a USA Basketball team scrimmage Friday night.
George's right leg appeared to snap between his knee and ankle as it jammed against the padded stanchion and the court beneath the basket after he jumped in an attempt to block a James Harden layup.
George remained on his back for several minutes in obvious pain before his leg was put in splint and he was wheeled off the court on a stretcher as teammates stood around him.
Moments later, USA Basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski grabbed a microphone and announced to the crowd at the Thomas & Mack Center that the scrimmage was over.
"With the serious injury that we had and the fact that we stopped playing for a long period of time, and out of respect for Paul and his family, the scrimmage is done," Krzyzewski said.
George, 24, has been an All-Star each of the last two years. He averaged 21.7 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 80 games this past season.
