Washington, D.C. (SportsNetwork.com) - Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Cliff Lee left in the bottom of the third inning of Thursday's start against the Washington Nationals.

With two outs in the third, Lee threw a pitch to Denard Span and pointed to his elbow. He then came off the mound and into the dugout and was relieved by Antonio Bastardo.

The left-hander was making just his third start since being activated off the disabled list on July 21. He had been previously suffering from an elbow strain.

Over 13 starts this season, Lee has posted a 4-5 record with a 3.65 earned run average.
