Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - DeWanna Bonner scored 22 points and the Phoenix Mercury continued to churn toward a WNBA record with their 14th straight victory, beating the Los Angeles Sparks, 93-73, Thursday night.

Phoenix, which hasn't lost since June 12 at Connecticut, is moving toward the league-mark of 18 straight wins, set by the Sparks in 2001. The Houston Comets have the second-longest victory string in WNBA history at 15 games in 1998.

The Mercury (20-3) clinched a playoff spot Tuesday, and two nights later had all five starters in double figures. Brittney Griner had 18 points and eight rebounds, Diana Taurasi contributed 18 points and seven assists. Penny Taylor scored 12, and Candice Dupree ended with 12 points and 11 boards.

Nneka Ogwumike scored 23 and Candace Parker chipped in 14 with nine rebounds for the Sparks, who lost their third in a row. They've dropped five straight at home. Jantel Lavender had 16 points in defeat.

Bonner and Griner each scored 12 in a dominant first quarter, during which the Mercury went 16-of-22 from the field and held a 36-19 points advantage. Included in the period was a 17-3 spurt, capped by two straight Bonner 3- pointers.

The Mercury widened the gap to 61-36 at the half, and the lead didn't dip under 12 the remainder of the game.

Phoenix continues its quest for the record Saturday night at home against New York.
