Dallas, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Robert Newhouse, who was used primarily as a blocking fullback during his long career with the Dallas Cowboys, died Tuesday at the age of 64.
Several media reports say Newhouse died at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota after a long battle with heart disease.
Newhouse played 12 seasons (1972-83) for the Cowboys and had 4,784 yards rushing with 31 touchdowns. He also caught five touchdowns.
One of the most memorable plays in Cowboys Super Bowl history came against the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XII. That's when he threw a touchdown pass to wide receiver Golden Richards in Dallas' 27-10 win.
When he retired at the conclusion of the 1983 season, Newhouse was the fourth all-time leading rusher in Cowboys history.
