Tyree joins Giants' front office

East Rutherford, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Giants named David Tyree director of player development on Tuesday.

Tyree, a former wide receiver for the Giants, replaces Charles Way, also a former Giant player who left the position earlier this offseason to head the NFL's player engagement department.

"We are pleased to have David back in the building as the new leader of our Player Development Department," Giants general manager Jerry Reese said. "We interviewed four outstanding candidates to replace Charles, but at the end of the day David was a perfect and natural fit."

Tyree is best known for making one of the most historic catches in Super Bowl history, pinning a pass from quarterback Eli Manning on his helmet as he fell to the ground in Super Bowl XLII. The fourth-quarter catch went for 32 yards on a 3rd-and-5 and led to the Giants' eventual game-winning touchdown against the New England Patriots.

The 34-year-old Tyree first joined the Giants as a sixth-round draft choice in 2003. He played in 73 regular-season games and caught 54 passes for 650 yards and four touchdowns, earning a Pro Bowl nod in 2005 for his special teams efforts.
