Manchester, England (SportsNetwork.com) - Manchester City will be without striker Alvaro Negredo to start its Premier League campaign after he suffered a broken metatarsal in a friendly against Hearts.
Negredo started City's friendly against the Scottish side on Friday before limping off shortly before the break, and he wrote on his Instagram account that he will miss the "next few months" as he recovers.
The 28-year-old joined City from Sevilla last summer and got off to a flying start at the Etihad Stadium, netting 23 goals in his first 33 appearances.
However, his form dropped off dramatically from mid-January to the end of the season after he suffered a shoulder injury as Negredo failed to score in his final 16 games for the club.
That dip in production may have cost Negredo a place on Spain's World Cup team, and now he will have to wait a bit longer to regain his form from the first half of last season.
City will open their Premier League campaign on Aug. 17 at Newcastle.
