Kevin Dineen added to Blackhawks' staff

Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Chicago Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville has added former Florida Panthers bench boss Kevin Dineen to his staff.

The 50-year-old Dineen coached the Panthers for two-plus seasons before being fired last November after the club's 3-9-4 start. Florida captured the 2011-12 Southeast Division title in Dineen's first season as an NHL head coach and went 56-62-28 during his tenure.

"Kevin brings proven leadership qualities, having served as an alternate captain and captain for several of his teams during his 19-year NHL career," Blackhawks vice president and general manager Stan Bowman said. "He will bring another well respected voice to our coaching staff and we look forward to his contributions to our team."

Following his dismissal from the Panthers, Dineen coached the Canadian women's national team to a gold medal at the Sochi Olympics in February.

Dineen and Quenneville were teammates on the Hartford Whalers from 1984-1990.
